Sabrina Switzer-Wareing

Academic Professional

Sabrina Switzer-Wareing brings a strong and relevant knowledge base of over 30 years of professional theatre, writing, special event coordination, and video production experience to the Herberger Young Scholars Academy.

Joining the faculty during its inaugural 2011-2012 school year, Switzer-Wareing builds on her experience of implementing theatrical education and service outreach programs for gifted learners, youth theaters, elementary schools, municipalities, and a women's prison. Recognized as an Outstanding Theatre Educator with the AZ Thespians’ Teacher of the Year Award and the ACT Spotlight Award for outstanding contributions to community theatre, Switzer-Wareing believes in affording student-scholars a diverse range of artistic opportunities. With this in mind, she directs the HYSA Thespian Society, the Performance Outreach Program, The Musical Interlude Series, mainstage productions, and assorted multidisciplinary service learning projects.  She also facilitates the Poetry Out Loud, National Shakespeare Competition, and the Arizona Young Artists Association competitions.

As a national Clarion winning video producer and director, she has created productions for a unique client list including - but not limited to - American Express Corporation, Camelback Mental Health Foundation, United Way, Kumagai Gumi Inc., Phoenix Convention Bureau, Ohio State ETV Network, and the Maricopa Community College System.  Her directing and acting background has included work in such entities as Phoenix Theatre, Actors Theatre of Phoenix, Black Hills Playhouse, and the Royal Shakespeare Company. While continuing her work as a staged production playwright and being involved in national professional organizations related to theatre and communication, she has also co-authored two university level workbooks in Nonverbal Communication and Conflict Resolution.

Additionally, she is the advisor for the HYSA National Honor Society Chapter.
